Requiem For A Dream

On yesterday, I did watched a movie named Requiem For A Dream. It is my first time to watch this movie, what I feel upon this movie is I totally no idea with the content and also the meaning of this movie. Therefore, I have to watch this movie again. Finally, I get some idea and meaning from this movie. This movie distributed on year 2000 and directed by Darren Aronofsky. It is a movie about American psychological and depicts four different forms of drug addiction, which lead to the characters’ imprisonment in a world of delusion and reckless desperation that is subsequently overtaken by reality, thus leaving them as hollow shells of their former selves.

And now, let me talk about my review after I watched this movie, Requiem For A Dream.

Story Plot:

In the beginning, an old widow woman named Sara Goldfarb was set to live alone in a high-rise apartment in New-York. One day, her beloved and the only son, Harry visits her and steals her television set and pawns it to buy drug s with his friend named Tyrone C. Love.

After they injured drug their body, they started “get-high” and wonder to make a large quantity of heroin to gain profit and then use the profit to retire. In that day follow, Sara was bought back the television set from her friend which is the pawnshop owner named Mr Rabinowitz and he suggests Sara ask help from police to help her son but Sara refuse to do and said Harry is all she have. After she returns home, she watches her favourite show and received a call from phone solicitor about she was offered a chance to appear on television. She was excited after received a phone call and imagine her on the stage with a slim-fit red dress she woke to Harry’s high-school graduation but she realises she can’t fit into the red dress; therefore she start a diet but now she becomes obsessed with food while she is not allowed to eat. Meanwhile, Harry was discussing their future with his girlfriend named Marion Siler who felt abandons the family and get courage from Harry to achieve her dream which is open a clothing design shop.

Few days later, Sara is chatting with her older women friend and tells them she will be on television, when the mailman delivers her a television appearance application package, all of the friends were excited to help Sara fill out the form. After that she decided to remove all the red meat and refined sugar for her diet but she overwhelming on diet, she get diet pills from willful physician.

She feel energize and rearrange the entire household and sweat constantly. Every night, Harry and Tyrone sell drug on the roadside and get huge profit to support Marion’s clothing business. Harry feel satisfy with his current status and visit her mother for forgiveness with his pass behavior. At Sara’s apartment, he noticed Sara is gaunt and grinding her teeth and ask her whether she is on any medicine. Sara admits to him that she is taking diet pills and tells Harry she is feeling good with losing weight. Harry asks Sara to quit the medicine because it may kill her. At night, Tyrone meets a drug dealer to increase the job responsibility, but unfortunately he was caught by police after a gun fight.

Harry bail Tyrone from jail and tell him most of the money was gone due to the drug war. Harry and Marion were felt suffer without drug because of it very expensive and short supply; therefore Harry suggests Marion have sex with Arnold, her psychiatrist to gain money to buy drugs. After getting the money, Harry and Tyrone take that money to buy drug but the fail it because someone fires a shot in the drug market. Marion disappointed and insatiable need for drug, Harry gives her a number who will give away Heroin if her prostitute herself. Meanwhile, Sara was affected by the diet pill and increases her dosage and creates an illusion that she is on the stage of the game show.

While she enjoying her imaginary, the wall suddenly falls break down and turn into television set. Sara gets shock and run off the building and run to the company building that promise give her a chance to appear on television and ask them why they haven call her. The officer though Sara is mentally ill and then call the police and also take her to psychiatric ward. Harry and Tyrone decided drive north to Florida to get drug. In the journey, Harry was suffers pain from his arm that cause by the injecting drug. Therefore, Tyrone was forced to send Harry to hospital and both of them had jailed for possession. At the same time, Marion was desperate with drug, she decided to prostitute herself to Tim for Heroin; when she return home, she starts to vomit and numb.

She receive call from Harry with fully apologize and she ask Harry when he can come home and Harry agree but both of them know it couldn’t make it. On the other side, Sara was jail in psychiatric ward and unable to communicate with other people. Therefore, the stuff in psychiatric ward was force-feeding her and gives her electric shock treatment. Marion was emotionally dead and return to Tim for Heroin with another group women and also businessmen.

Somewhere in the south, Tyrone was served in jail and Harry was sent to the hospital for his arm surgery. Besides, Sara lies brain dead from the treatments and falls asleep smiling, her head filled with fantasies of Harry and her husband together with her on television.

Part that I like in this movie:

There are only one parts I like in this movie is Harry asks forgiveness from his mother because of his pass behavior. This show that each of us know how to self-reflection and admit what we done before. This movie bring us a very good lesson to us because most of the people nowadays were not admit and think back what we done before, such as our attitude and also behavior.

Part that I dislike in this movie:

The part I dislike in this movie is Harry steal her mother’s television set to exchange money for drugs and her mother over spoil him although he had done this action for many time. This how people nowadays spoil their children too much although they know their children doing wrong but still think they are kind and help them make excuse.

The second part is disliked in this movie is Harry ask her girlfriend, Marion to prostitute herself for money and Marion didn’t reject this idea. It shows people nowadays emphasise on desire more than moral value. They not spare at the expense of the body to achieve their goal.

Conclusion:

This movie have fully reflexes out our society, it give a great opportunity for us to learn lessons and also self-reflection on our attitude and behavior. We cannot spoil our children too much because it is not helping them but is destroying them. We should think carefully before we do anything; think whether the things or objects are merit to do or not.
